Keeping a feather alive is a science problem. We treated it like one.
Humidified Birdie is the world’s first waterless, biodegradable, climate-tuned shuttlecock humidifier — built where chemistry, materials science, mathematical modeling, and AI self-learning meet.
The Problem
A feather is a materials problem.
A feather shuttlecock is about sixteen goose feathers set into a cork base, conditioned at a precise humidity. Lose that moisture and the feathers turn brittle and shatter — sometimes in a single rally. The old fix, soaking shuttles in water, is imprecise and damages the very feather it’s meant to protect. We approached it differently: as a controlled problem in moisture and materials.
The Technology
Hydro Master Gel.
At the core of every HmBr humidifier is our proprietary Hydro Master Gel — a waterless formulation that delivers and holds exactly the moisture a feather needs. No water. No electricity. No waste. The formula itself is a trade secret. How we engineered and tuned it — the science below — is what this page is about.
The Science
Three disciplines, one feather.
Season Smart and Location Smart aren’t settings you toggle. They’re what becomes possible when three fields converge on a single, stubborn problem — a combination almost no one brings to a shuttlecock.
How a feather holds water.
The molecular principles that govern how feathers absorb, retain, and release humidity — and how to deliver that moisture to them without water. Grounded in graduate materials-science research.
Calibrated, not guessed.
Simulation-based optimization and parameter extraction calibrate the humidity delivery — the same class of curve-fitting and optimization methods behind an IEEE-referenced thesis.
Tuned to conditions.
The system adjusts to climate instead of running one fixed setting — so the contents match the air the shuttle will actually fly in.
Season Smart · Location Smart
Matched to your season and your location.
The humidity a shuttle needs in dry winter air isn’t what it needs on a humid monsoon court. Because the model is climate-tuned, we match each humidifier’s contents to your season and your location — a level of precision no water-based method can replicate.
The Result
Feathers stay supple. Shuttles fly true.
The outcome is a shuttle that resists shattering and holds its flight far longer: 3–9× longer life, a 67–89% lower cost per game, and dramatically less waste. None of it is asked on faith — the match-by-match tournament data, year-over-year comparisons, independent tests, and endorsements from world-ranked players all live on hmbrimpact.org.

Meet the Inventor
Hari Gunupudi
A dual-Master’s scientist — materials chemistry and AI / mathematical optimization— and a BWF-certified badminton coach who invented the world’s first waterless, biodegradable shuttlecock humidifier. Five years of R&D and five years of free tournament deployment, all self-funded, before a single unit sold.
Made to be used, not admired.
Humidified Birdie is sold through the HmBr store. One unit lives in your bag and conditions every tube you carry.
